Average Velocity and Slope

This applet computes the equation of the line through the point (1, 384) and (1+h, s(1+h)) for various values of h ranging from -1 to 1. The slopes of the lines represent the average velocity of the object with position function s(x) from time t = 1 to t = 1+h when h > 0 (or from time t = 1+h to t = 1 when h < 0). Note that there is no defined line when h = 0 as there is only one point; finding the equation of this line is one of our first major goals in calculus.
