Quadrilateral Shape Shifting
This activity we will explore the characteristics of rectangle, square, rhombus, trapezoid, and quadrilateral and see how these shapes are related to each other. Explore the characteristics of each shape (make bigger and smaller with vertices and edges) and the labeling provided. After you have explored, drag the label that best aligns with each shapes' properties that we have discussed as a class. Take a screenshot/picture of your labels before continuing. Answer the questions at the bottom of this page.
1. What changes when you drag the corners of the rhombus? Rectangle? Quadrilateral? Why does this happen? 2. Can a shape have more than one label? If so, which shape(s)? 3.What are the characteristics of a quadrilateral? 4. What are the characteristics of a rectangle? 5. What are the characteristics of a rhombus? 6. What are the characteristics of a square? 7. What are the characteristics of a trapezoid? 8. Can you make a square out of the rectangle? Rhombus? Quadrilateral? Trapezoid? What properties of the shapes allow you to do/not do this? Take a screenshot/picture on your iPad of these changes. 9. Can you make the square into a rectangle? Rhombus? Trapezoid? Why or why not? Take a screenshot/picture on your iPad of these changes.
