Investigating polynomial functions
When the largest power of x is 0, the function is called constant.
When the largest power of x is 1, the function is called linear.
When the largest power of x is 2, the function is called quadratic.
When the largest power of x is 3, the function is called cubic.
When the largest power of x is 4, the function is called quartic.
While the other letters (coefficients) set to 0, using the slider, change the value of and sketch two graphs for two different values of .
Now repeat the process for every type of the above-listed function.
Though now freely moving the sliders, figure out:
The maximum and the minimum number of roots each type of function can have. (Hint: we've discussed this for quadratic functions already, but now you get to test everything out)
