A representation of a geometric technique employed by Descartes for solving quadratics in the form shown. The distance between B and C, and the distance between B and D, give the two positive roots of the equation.
Note: since only valid for positive roots, while this demonstration can investigate what happens when b is not less than a/2, this is the range for which the result holds.
