The Triangle Inequality Activity

Author:
Jay Miller
In this application you are looking at the lengths of the sides of a triangle. You are trying to see if there is a relationship between the lengths of the sides and to see if there is a limside lit to the lengths of the sides 1. Adjust the side lengths of AB and AC Compare AB to AC + CB Compare AC to AB +CB Compare CB to AB + AC 2. What can you say about the length of the side of a triangle 3. Adjust the side lengths so that AB is the same length or longer than AC 4. Move C so that BC is the absolute longest it could be. Compare the length of CB to AB +AC 5. Move C so that BC is the absolute shortest it could be. Compare the length of CB to AB - AC 6. What is the absolute longest a side of a triangle can be? What is the absolute shortest?
