G-CO.12 Construction #7 Constructing a line parallel to a given line through a point not on the line

Geometric Constructions with a straightedge and a compass

Given: Line AB, point M, not on the line. Construct Line MN, such that line AB line MN Steps 1. Use a straightedge to draw line AM. 2. Place your compass point at A and draw an arc so that it intersects both lines AM and AB at points C and D. 3. Using the same compass measurement as step 2, place your compass on point M and draw an identical arc so that it intersects line AM at E. 4. Place your compass at point C and set the measurement to draw an arc at point D. 5. Using the same compass measurement as step 5, place your compass at point E and draw an arc so that it intersects the arc in step 3 at point N. 6. Use a straightedge to draw line MN. 7. Line AB line MN

Construct Line MN that is parallel to line AB.
