Ganson 1

Arthur Ganson is this amazing kinetic sculpture artist that you can find out more about from http://www.ted.com/talks/arthur_ganson_makes_moving_sculpture.html or http://www.youtube.com/user/dreamingmachines This sketch uses a turning wheel (move b or press play) to move two constrained rods. Find equations to model the position of Q and R in terms of b. You can enter a point in the input bar as a function, such as (cos(b), sin(b)) and it will move as b adjusts. Try an equation for Q, or more challengingly, for R. If that’s too open-ended, I have my first approximations available. How well do they work? Why did I try these to approximate? Do you see a way to make them more accurate?
