Pythagoras' Theorem
Problem 1
Draw a right-angled triangle.
Mark the hypotenuse* with an x.
Mark the legs** with numbers larger than 4.
Then, solve your problem! Find x.
*The hypotenuse is the longest side of the right-angled triangle (the side opposite to the right angle).
**The legs are the two other sides of the right-angled triangle.
Problem 2
Now draw a new right-angled triangle.
Mark one of the legs with an x.
Mark the other leg with a number larger than 4.
Mark the hypotenuse with a number larger than the one you already assigned to the leg.
Now, solve your problem! Find x.
Problem 3
Draw two right-angled triangles, fulfilling the following:
The triangles share one side.
The shared side is the hypotenuse of one triangle but it is a leg of the other triangle.
Now, mark the shared side with x.
Mark a side (you can choose which one) with y.
Label the remaining three sides with numbers, e.g. 1, 3 and 6 (or other numbers that you choose).
Finally, solve your problem! Find x and y.
