The Shir-Dor madrassa (1619-1636) is on the Registan of Samarkand opposit to the Ulug Beg madrassa. The building is abundantly decorated with kufic calligraphy. Along the edge of the pishtaq you can read the full text of the third of the six Kalimas: "Glory (is for) Allah. And all praises for Allah. And (there is) none worthy of worship except Allah. And Allah is the Greatest. And (there is) no power and no strength except from Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.". The first part of the kalima is written in dark blue glazed tiles, the second part in turquoise tiles. Following the rules of square kufic the whole text form a long rectangle.
