Lesson 2: Build it!!
1. Let's use tools to create shapes precisely. I can copy this figure using only the pencil tool and no other tools.
Copy It!
2. I can familiarize myself with the digital straightedge and compass tools.
- Draw a few circles of different sizes
- Draw a few line segments of different lengths
- Extend some of those line segments in both directions.
- You can also play with some of the other tools, as well.
Getting familiar with digital straightedge and compass tools.
3. I can copy the figure by completing these steps with the Line, Segment, and Ray tools and the Circle and Compass tools:
- Draw a point anywhere and label it A.
- Draw a circle centered at point A with a radius equal to length PQ.
- Select the Compass tool (circle with line segment underneath)
- You will click point P and then point Q - this will make your new circle have a radius equal to the length of PQ
- Then move your circle and click on point A - this will make your circle have a center at Point A
- Mark a point on the circle and label it B.
- Draw another circle centered at point B that goes through point A.
- Select the Circle with Center through Point tool
- Click on point B - this will make the center of your new circle at point B
- Click on point A - this will make your new circle go through point A
- Draw a line segment between points A and B.
4. I can follow the steps below to create a triangle inside a circle.
Directions:
- Create a circle centered at A with radius AB. (hint: use the Compass tool like in the previous problem)
- Estimate the midpoint of segment AB, mark it with the Point on Object tool, and label it C.
- Create a circle centered at B with radius BC. (Use the Compass tool)
- Mark the 2 intersection points of the circles with the Intersection tool. (Tool looks like two lines crossing with a red point where they intersection/cross)
- Label the one toward the top of the page as D and the one toward the bottom as E.
- Use the Polygon tool (looks like a Triangle) to connect points A, D, and E to make triangle .
