Sphere as a LOCUS: Quick Exploration and Prompt

STUDENTS:

In the GeoGebra applet below, 1) Find the slider (on the left) named Animate. Slide this slider completely to the right. 2) Now use the xcoord & ycoord sliders to move the black point (that lies on the sphere) around. 3) Change the value of r by moving the r slider back and forth. After doing so, please answer the QUESTION that appears below the applet. How would you describe ALL POSSIBLE LOCATIONS for the LARGE BLACK POINT that lies on the sphere? Describe specifically as best you can.

1) Open up GeoGebra 3D app on your device. 2) Go to MENU, OPEN. Under SEARCH, type g7qmdmqw. 3) The Animate slider controls the animation. The r slider adjusts the radius of the sphere.
