The throne room of the Kuhna Ark (1805-1806) has got an open summer-iwan, decorated with an astonishing floral pattern of spirals overflowing into each other.

On both sides of the iwan there are two minaret-like twers with a pattern of overlapping hexagons. Looking more closely to the pattern you can see that not all edges in the patterns are the same. By not drawing all possible hexagons dull vertical lines are avoided. By broadening the lines of the pattern in some edges small hexagons are created, in other 6-pointed stars. In following applet you can follow the creation from hexagon to the pattern. PS: On the picture you can see (presumably during a restauration) in the center two tiles are exchanged. The error is so clear that's almost impossible to suppose that virtuoso designers wouldn't have noticed.
