Paterson City Planning
Paterson is the first planned industrialized city in the United States. Alexander Hamilton and the Society of Useful Manufacturing (SUM) purchased 700 acres of land after the Revolutionary War ended and named it Paterson after New Jersey Governor, William Paterson. It was designed by Pierre Charles L'Enfant, the designer of Washington, DC. The marked location indicate early buildings in Paterson's history. Most have moved since.
