Rotations Exploration 2 - 180° (Teacher Copy)
Work with a partner.
a. Draw a triangle with vertices at A(0,3) B(4,5), and C(3, -3).
b. Create a point at the origin D(0,0).
c. The point (x, y) is rotated 180° counterclockwise about the origin. With your partner, make a prediction of which quadrant(s) will the image of the triangle be in after a 180° counterclockwise rotation.
d. Rotate triangle ABC 180° counterclockwise about the origin. What are the coordinates of the vertices of the image of triangle A'B'C'? Write a rule to determine the coordinates of the image of (x, y) after a 180° counterclockwise rotation.
e. Find the side lengths and angle measures of the two triangles. What do you notice?
