Equality vs Congruence

These two figures have equal numbers. They are equal in dimensions-length, width and height. However, the two figures are not congruent. Complete the activity to find out why.

If the two figures are congruent, you will be able to map one figure onto another. To do this, grab one of the figures with your mouse. Move it over so it is on top of the other figure. Check to see if they are identical.

Next, check to see if the figures overlap (map) if you flip one of the figures over.

What is your conclusion about how the meaning of congruence differs from the meaning of equal?
