String art (as tangents to a curve)

Based on the "string art" craft/project of connecting nails along intersecting axes with string. Either drag point A along its axis or drag the corresponding slider a. Alternatively, with a keyboard, you may select the point or slider and then use ← → or ↓↑ keys to adjust.
  • a = the distance of A from the origin
  • b = the distance of B from the origin
  • a + b = the constant sum of the distances between the points and the origin
  • θ = angle between axes that points A & B travel along
_____________________________ As a Calculus connection: The "show curves" toggle will display/hide the implicit curve to which the "string" segments/lines are tangent. In this pdf, I first develop a parametric model for this curve before then proving the connection to the implicit curve.
