Geometry Lesson 4.1 Translations
Explore Translations with GeoGebra
Watch the video to learn how to create a translation in GeoGebra. After completing your translation, answer the questions.
THE STEPS IN VIDEO:
DETAILED STEPS:
1. Construct a triangle ABC with the "Polygon" tool.
2. Construct a translation arrow (a vector) with the "Vector" tool.
3. Construct the translation of your preimage with the "Translation" tool and change the color of your image.
4. Connect the vertices A and A', B and B' then C and C' with the "Straight" tool and transform your lines into dotted lines.
5. Display the measurements of the segments AA', BB', CC', and the vector measurement with the "Distance or Length" tool.
6. Display the measurements of the 3 sides of your preimage and image with the "Distance or Length" tool.
7. Modify the length and orientation of your vector with the "Move" tool. Observe what happens.
8. Edit your preimage with the "Move" tool. Observe what happens.
9. Use the "Angle" tool to measure each interior angle of the pre-image and image.
BUILD YOUR TRANSLATION HERE:
QUESTION 1
Change the length and direction of the vector. What do you notice about the relationship between the corresponding vertices of the pre-image and image?
QUESTION 2
Change the shape of your preimage. What do you notice about the relationship between the corresponding angle measures of the pre-image and image?
QUESTION 3
Change the shape of your preimage. What do you notice about the relationship between the corresponding side lengths of the pre-image and image?
QUESTION 4
Change the vector and the shape of the preimage. What do you notice about the relationship between the dashed lines connecting the pre-image and image vertices?
